Joe Louis was born on May 13, 1914 in Lafayette, Alabama. On June 22, 1937 he won the World Heavyweight Title from James J. Braddock. He retired after losing to Rocky Marciano on October 26, 1951. His final record was 63-3. Offered here is a wire photo of Joe Louis presenting a letter of introduction from the Mayor of Detroit to New York's famous Mayor Fiorello Laguardia, dated May 17, 1935.
