Jack Dempsey was born on June 24, 1895 in Manassa, Colorado. He defeated Jess Willard on July 4, 1919 to win the World Heavyweight Title and held the title until September 23, 1926 when he lost to Gene Tunney. Dempsey announced his retirement in February of 1928 with a final record of 64-6-9 with 49 KO's. Presented here is a rare hand tinted photograph of Jack Dempsey in one of his most famous poses as champion.
This photograph is by the famous Apeda Studios of New York and depicts Dempsey in a famous pose with his fight robe. The photograph has been hand tinted with a sepia tone finish. 18" x 29". Professionally framed and matted. In almost mint condition with very little fading and no noticeable flaws. The photo dates to the 1920's, but this tinted version probaly dates to a decade later. One of the finest photographs of Jack Dempsey we have handled. Magnificent in every detail.
