On June 18, 1936 (delayed one day at Yankee Stadium in New York, Joe Louis fought German heavyweight Max Schmeling in what turned out to be an historic main event. Louis entered the ring undefeated, but the veteran Schmeling saw a flaw in his style, exploited it and knocked Louis out in the 12th round. Ring Magazine named this Fight Of The Year. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting Joe Louis at his training camp in Lafayette, New York playing baseball with his trainer, Jack Blackburn, acting as catcher and his manager, John Roxborough, acting as umpire.
