HISTORY: On July 4, 1908 at the Mission Street Arena in Colma, California world lightweight champion Joe Gans defended his title against Battling Nelson. Nelson prevailed knocking Gans out in the 17th round to capture the title. Referee Jack Welsh was so disgusted with all the "hissing and hooting" at him that he announced his retirement. Offered here is an original, real photo postcard which depicts Gans down as the referee counts and Nelson looks on.
