On July 8, 1889 in Richburg, Mississippi World Heavyweight Champion, John L. Sullivan met and defeated challenger Jake Kilrain in what would be the last defense of his title in bare knuckles. This fight was fought under the grueling heat and scorching sun typical of summer in the south. The fight lasted 75 rounds before Kilrain was forced to submit. These two met in a free outdoor vaudeville exhibition in White City, Chicago in 1909. Offered here is an original postcard for the Sullivan-Kilrain exhibition in 1909.
This is an original, used, color postcard picturing Sullivan and Kilrain in the ring. Bold color and print. Used and postmarked 1909. Not creased or torn. Corner wear. 3 1/2" x 5 1/2."
