On December 3, 1973 at the Coliseum of Quebec in Quebec City welterweights Clyde Gray and Fernand Marcotte met in the featured bout. Gray prevailed stopping Marcotte in the 9th round. "Clyde Gray of Toronto retained his Canadian welterweight championship with a 9th round TKO over Fernand Marcotte of Quebec City in a scheduled 12 round bout. Fernand Marcotte, Sr., one of the challenger's three handlers, advised referee Harry Davis of Toronto to stop the bout after the 8th round before his son suffered further damage to his eyes. Under the 5 point must system that was in effect, Gray had won every round with 40 point totals on each of the three judge's cards. Marcotte had scores ranging from 30 to 33 points on the judge's cards. Gray was unmarked except for a swollen index finger on his right hand." -Canadian Press.
