HISTORY: On November 16, 1912 at Coffroth's Arena in San Francisco world lightweight champion Ad Wolgast defended his title against an old foe, Willie Ritchie. Ritchie was awarded the victory in the 16th round by disqualification. Wolgast came out fighting, but in the 16th Ritchie landed a long wild right to the jaw, spinning Wolgast round and nearly sending him down. Braced with one fist on the canvas, Wolgast launched two low blows to Ritchie, and referee Jim Griffen stopped the fight, awarding the victory to Ritchie on a foul. Offered here is an original, first generation, type 1 photograph depicting the two in action.
