HISTORY: On May 23, 1948 at Platz in Hamburg-Altona, Altona, Hamburg, Germany former world heavyweight champion Max Schmeling and Walter Neusel headlined the boxing show. Neusel won a ten round decision. "In a listless 10 round fight studded with clinches, 40 year old Walter Neusel defeated Max Schmeling, 42 year old former world heavyweight champion, yesterday. Neither Neusel, nor Schmeling struck any telling blows but Neusel hit Max more frequently. A crowd of 40,000 including British troops and a handful of American soldiers from Bremen saw the fight in Hamburg's outdoor stadium." -Associated Press.
