Frank Slavin was born on January 5, 1862 in Australia. Slavin was a rushing, moving, boxer-puncher with skill and an extremely hard punch in either hand; He was much like Jack Dempsey, the heavyweight champion, in his skills, ability to take punishment, and killer-instinct. Slavin held the Heavyweight Championship of Australia at one time in his career; He disliked Peter Jackson intensely and was an arch-rival of his. During his career, Slavin defeated such men as Jim Fogarty, Mick Dooley, Bill Farnan, Harry Laing, Martin "Buffalo" Costello, Jim Daly, Joe McAuliffe, Bill "Chesterfield" Goode, Jake Kilrain, Frank Craig, Joe Butler and Tom Lees.
