LEONARD, BENNY-LEW TENDLER ORIGINAL WIRE PHOTO (1922-SHAKING HANDS)
On July 27, 1922 at Boyle's Thirty Acres in Jersey City, New Jersey lightweight champion Benny Leonard fought Lew Tendler in the main event. Leonard won a 12 round decision in defense of his title. The New York Times called Leonard the winner. The Nevada State Journal (AP wire) said "a majority [of reporters] seemed to favor Leonard . . .although some declared for a draw." Offered here is an original wire photo showing the two fighters shaking hands on the day of the fight with promoter Jimmy Johnston looking on.
