Prince Naseem Hamed fought Vuyani Bungu on March 11, 2000 in London. Hamed knocked Bungu out in the 4th round to successfully defend his WBO Featherweight Title. Hamed, known for his extravagant ring entrances, entered the ring on a "magic carpet" suspended from the ceiling. Bungu fought from a slouched stance, trying to outbox the highly unorthodox Hamed. However, Hamed's superior reflexes, power, and overall boxing ability were too much for his overmatched opponent. Though Bungu occasionally landed some good shots, they did not appear to have an effect on Hamed. Having underwhelmed in his previous three bouts, Hamed dominated this fight from start to finish. Referee Joe Cortez stops the bout after a hard left hand from Hamed puts Bungu down. Also on this show Micky Ward upset WBU light welterweight champion Shea Neary to win that title. Both fighters traded on the inside in the centre of the ring. Neary used a more conventional attack behind his jab while Ward looked to land power shots. Neary was hurt by a body shot in round 1. Ward was hurt by a right hand on the temple in round 3. Neary was hurt by a body shot in round 4. In round 8, a hook to the body followed by a left uppercut put Neary down. Neary made it up, but an identical combination put Neary down again - prompting the referee's stoppage. Presented here is an original, official program from this bout.
