On July 2, 1941 (postponed from June 25th) welterweights Al "Bummy" Davis and Fritzie Zivic met for the second time. In their first meeting Davis was disqualified for repeated low blows. In this fight Zivic, the welterweight champion, prevailed stopping Davis in the 10th round. Davis was down in the first with the bell ringing at seven. He took a pounding from the 7th round on. Davis put up a courageous effort. Bummy's end of the purse went to the US Army Relief Fund. Paid attendance was 8,968. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting a staggering Davis at the end of the fight.
