HISTORY: On March 31,1973 at the Sports Arena in San Diego former world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali fought Ken Norton in a featured heavyweight bout. Norton surprised Ali with his toughness and won a split 12 round decision. Ali broke his jaw early in the fight. Muhammad Ali: Set up a temporary training camp and hosted media sessions at the Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles in September 1973. This was part of his final preparations and publicity push leading up to his highly anticipated rematch, Ken Norton vs. Muhammad Ali II, at the nearby Inglewood Forum.
