Yama Bahama was born William Butler on February 16, 1933 in Bimini, Bahamas. He began his professional boxing career on July 20, 1954 with a loss to Bob Hoffman. Fighting as a middleweight Bahama developed into a significant contender and posted wins over Gil Turner, Kid Gavila, Joey Giambra and Joe Miceli. Despite his successes Bahama never got a title shot. He retired after a loss to Linnes Johnson on August 1, 1967 with a final record of 77-14-3. He passed away in the Bahamas on June 29, 2009.
