On March 6, 1950 welterweight contender Carmen Basilio fought former World Lightweight Champion Lew Jenkins in Syracuse in a bout sponsored to raise funds for polio research. The fight was originally scheduled for March 2nd, but delayed to the 6th due to a blizzard in the area. Early odds favored Jenkins, but shifted to Basilio before the fight. Many thought the 34 year old Jenkins could outbox the 22 year old Basilio who was moving into his first major fight. It did not happen. Basilio using the relentless fighting style that would serve him so well throughout his career banged out a ten round decision over the fading Jenkins. Presented here is the rare, official program to this event.
