On October 17, 1927 at the Broadway Arena in Brooklyn, New York former welterweight champion Jack Britton fought Hilario Martinez in the main event. The attendance of 5,000 was "the largest ever to witness a bout in this historic Brooklyn fight arena"--with 1,000 turned away at the door (New York Times). Martinez won a close ten round decision.
