HISTORY: Rubin "Hurricane" Carter was and continues to be one of the great figures of controversy in the history of boxing. Never a champion, but recognized as one of the dangerous middleweight contenders of the 1960's his career was cut short when he stood accused and later convicted of murder in New Jersey. His life has been recently portrayed in film in the movie HURRICANE starring Denzil Washington.
