HISTORY: Jefferson F. Davis (June 3, 1808 – December 6, 1889) was an American politician who served as the only president of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865. He represented Mississippi in the United States Senate and the House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic Party before the American Civil War. He was the United States Secretary of War from 1853 to 1857.
Offered here is an ink signature of Jefferson Davis. Signed and dated July 3, 1860 by Davis prior to the outbreak of the Civil War. At this time Davis was a United States Senator from Mississippi debating the issue of slavery. Authenticated by PSA/DNA.
FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an ink signature on paper. Signed in ink, "July 3, 1860 I am Sir, very respectfully your fellow citizen. Jefferson Davis." Not creased or torn. Glued to an old newspaper. Very minor staining. 2 3/4" x 4 1/2." Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA with cert # 85716844.
