FIRPO, LUIS WIRE PHOTO (1923-TRAINING FOR DEMPSEY)
Luis Firpo was born on October 11, 1894 in Junin, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He won the South American Heavyweight Title on April 30, 1920 from Dave Mills. On September 14, 1923 he fought Jack Dempsey for the World Heavyweight Title but was knocked out in the 2nd round. He retired after losing to Arturo Godoy on June 11, 1936 with a final record of 32-6 with 26 KO's. Presented here is an antique wire photo of Luis Firpo at his training camp on August 23, 1923 preparing for his fight with Jack Dempsey.. This is an original wire photo with caption on the back.
