HISTORY: On August 18, 1969 at Madison Square Garden in New York future heavyweight champion George Foreman fought Chuck Wepner in a featured bout. This was Foreman's 4th pro fight. Foreman stopped Wepner in the 3rd round. Foreman hit Wepner at will with a snappy left jab, stinging left hooks and solid rights. Foreman staggered Wepner with a volley of punches in the second round and cut him over the left eye. Early in the third round, Foreman split the cut wide open with a series of punches, and the referee stopped the fight. Post fight comments "I'm happy to win, but disappointed it didn't go a few more rounds. I could use the work." -George Foreman. "He's just a pup in the woods. We'll play it by ear. We want to fight as often as possible. Win, lose or draw, he's going to be a good solid fighter." -Dick Sadler, Foreman's manager.
