On October 20, 1954 at Convention Hall in Philadelphia welterweight champion Kid Gavilan defended his title against tough Johnny Saxton. Saxton won a 15 round unanimous decision and the title. According to Nat Fleischer in The Ring, January 1955, pages 8-9, the referee showed favorism, frequently warning Gavilan against holding, whereas Saxton was mainly to blame. It was an extremely dull fight, with scarcely any action for the first eight rounds. Offered here is a rare original on site poster for this event. This on site poster is cardboard picturing both fighters. Not creased or torn. Does have some chipping at corners and along borders. Bold color and sharp images. Minor soiling. 22 1/2" x 28."
