On July 11, 1969 at the War Memorial in Syracuse, New York super welterweights Emile Griffith and Dickie DiVeronica fought in the featured bout. Griffith stopped DiVeronica in the 7th round. A left hook, followed by a right and another left-right combo, had DiVeronica hurt bad enough that referee Jack Milicich stopped the contest.
