HISTORY: James J. Jeffries was born on April 15, 1875 in Carroll, Ohio. He won the World Heavyweight Title on June 9, 1899 from Bob Fitzsimmons. He initially retired undefeated in 1905 posting career victories over James Corbett, Tom Sharkey as well as Robert Fitzsimmons. He retired after losing to Jack Johnson on July 4, 1910, his only loss, with a final record of 18-1-2 with 15 KO's.
Offered here is an original cabinet card of James Jeffries produced in 1909 as he was training for his upcoming fight with Jack Johnson.

Photographer stamp for Sarony with copyright 1909 at lower right corner and Jeffries name on mount. Jeffries record on reverse with old price for the card written. Not creased or torn. Small tack hole at top center. Mild surface wear. 4 1/4" x 6 1/2."
