James J. Jeffries was born on April 15, 1875 in Carroll, Ohio. He won the World Heavyweight Title on June 9, 1899 from Bob Fitzsimmons. He retired after losing to Jack Johnson on July 4, 1910, his only loss, with a final record of 18-1-2 with 15 KO's. This photograph is a first generation taken in 1912 by the Tom Jones Company of Los Angeles. It is mounted on antique board. There is chipping to the mount not affecting the photograph. 6" x 8." The image is clear and crisp. No creasing. Photographer's stamp present. A small scratch on right edge. Exceedingly rare image.
