JOHNSON, JACK-JIM JEFFRIES SOUVENIR WATCH FOB (1910)

Regular price $600.00

On July 4, 1910 in Reno, Nevada Jack Johnson defended his World Heavyweight Title against former undefeated champion James Jeffries in one of the most celebrated fights of all time. Despite the public clamor for Jeffries to end his retirement and end the reign of the first African-American heavyweight champion Johnson dominated the fight from the outset. Johnson's superior skill, size, and athletic ability combined with the 5 year layoff Jeffries took before the fight resulted in a completely one sided affair with Johnson stopping the "Great White Hope" in the 15th round. Offered here is an original, souvenir watch fob for this fight.
This is a metallic, souvenir watch fob. On the front it is marked "Jeffries Johnson California 1910." The back is marked, "Kill-Et California World's MAIN Event NEVADA July 4, 1910." The California references were due to fact that fight was originally scheduled to be in California, but after opposition by the governor it was moved to Reno, Nevada. Shows wear on both sides. Top piece intact. No rust or pitting. Irregularly shaped to 1 1/2" x 1 3/4." Quite rare, one of the few examples of this version we have handled.

Size: 1 1/2 x 1 3/4
