On May 28, 1917 at the Manhattan Athletic Club in New York world lightweight champion Freddie Welsh defended his title against local favorite Benny Leonard. Leonard fought a spirited fight and put Welsh down three times in the 9th round before referee Kid McPartland intervened and stopped the action. Benny Leonard was the new world lightweight champion. Offered here is a very rare, original, full, unused ticket for this event.
This is an original, full unused ticket which names the fighters and includes a section and seat number. Stub firmly attached. Bold color and print. 7 small hole punches. Closed tear at lower left with no paper loss. Creased at lower left. Some soiling front and back. Glue residue on back from mounting. Edge and corner wear. 2 1/2" x 5 1/4." Extremely rare championship ticket, the only we have seen.
