On November 30, 1979 Sugar Ray Leonard won the World Welterweight Title stopping champion Wilfred Benitez in 15 rounds at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Benitez had begun his professional career at age 15. He won his first title at age 17 and had won the Welterweight Title defeating Carlos Palomino. Leonard, the 1976 Olympic Champion, came into the fight undefeated in 25 fights and was the reigning NABF Welterweight Champion. Also included on this card on November 30, 1979 Marvin Hagler and Vito Antuofermo fought to a controversial draw for the Middleweight Title. Presented here is an official on site poster for this event which has vintage ink signatures of Sugar Ray Leonard, Vito Antuofermo, Wilfredo Benitez and two undercard fighters.
This poster is printed on thin cardboard stock and pictures both fighters in the upper left area. The poster has no creases. There are several edge nicks, but no paper loss. No tack holes. The print and color are still bold. Bold, clear images. Clean with no staining. Signatures are inscribed to Peter and are light, but readable. Scarce. 22" x 28."
