HISTORY: On February 23, 1938 at Madison Square Garden in New York world heavyweight champion Joe Louis fought Nathan Mann in the featured bout. Louis dominated and knocked Mann out in the 3rd round. Mann signed the deal on December 24, 1937. Mann ranked 7th in the NBA Q3 rankings released September, went up three spots in the Q4 rankings released on December 19, thanks to his victory over third-ranked Bob Pastor. Attendance was 19,490. The gate was $111,698.49. Mann was floored four times. The United Press reported: "Louis could not have been any more effective if he had carried an axe in one hand and a black-jack in the other."
