Sugar Ray Robinson (Walker Smith, Jr.) became a professional fighter on October 4, 1940. He defeated Tommy Bell on December 20, 1946 to win the World Welterweight Title. He defeated Jake LaMotta on February 14, 1951 to win the World Middleweight Title. He would eventually win that title on four additional occasions. In a career which ran until 1965 he would claim victories over Gene Fullmer, Carmen Basilio, Kid Gavilan, Bobo Olson, Rocky Graziano, Henry Armstrong and Randy Turpin. Offered here is the original Memorial Resolution issued by the State Of New York upon the death of Sugar Ray Robinson in 1989. Issued on May 16, 1989 by Stephen F. Sloan, Secretary Of The New York State Senate.
This original Legislative Resolution was presented to the Robinson family after his death in 1989. Attached to a folder with the emblem of the New York State Senate. The resolution has the Senate seal attached. The document is fine condition. Clean. No creases or tears. Bold print. The cover has minor edge and corner wear with tiny creases in the corners and one stain on the back cover not affecting the resolution. 8 1/2" x 14."
