On August 24, 1949 at Yankee Stadium in New York Sugar Ray Robinson, fighting as a middleweight met Steve Belloise in the main event. Robinson stopped Belliose in the 7th round. Robinson was a 3-1 favorite. Officials of the International Boxing Club all but guaranteed the winner a shot at the World Middleweight Title. There was a crowd of 28,812. The Associated Press gave Robinson every round except the fifth. Robinson dropped Belloise with a left hook to the chin late in the seventh round. The referee was at the count of five when the bell rang, and Belloise was dragged back to his corner. Seconds later, his manager stopped the fight. Under New York rules, it went into the record books as a seventh-round technical knockout. Offered here is an exceptionally rare, original, on site poster for this event.
